National Gallery of Art, Garden Café Francais
Through February 10, 2011
Chef Michel Richard, an avid art enthusiast, has created a menu of signature French dishes for the Garden Café Francais, at the National Gallery of Art, in honor of the exhibition From Impressionism to Modernism: The Chester Dale Collection. Chef Richard drew inspiration for his menu from the many masterpieces of French impressionism in this collection.  The menu will change seasonally, and be enhanced with special event selections, throughout the year.

The National Gallery of Art is a preferred destination for Richard, with the French impressionists being among the highlights. Not surprisingly, he particularly loves the still lifes depicting food, with the fruits, flowers, and wines of the 19th century. From the grace and charm of Edgar Degas' dancers and Paul Cézanne's painterly views of Provence to the bold, bright colors of Paul Gauguin and the strong brush strokes of Vincent van Gogh, many of his favorite painters and paintings are represented in the Chester Dale Collection.

From Impressionism to Modernism brings together eighty-one of the finest European and American paintings that Wall Street investor Chester Dale, assembled from 1919 through the 1950s. Many of the works in the show are among the most renowned masterpieces in the history of art, and they may be seen only at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Garden Café Français is presented in partnership with Restaurant Associates and executive chef David Rogers at the National Gallery of Art.
